Emma Goodfield, AMFT
Hi, I’m Emma, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in the San Francisco Bay Area. I offer individual therapy for adults and teens, both in person and online.
My approach is rooted in a contextual and psychodynamic framework, exploring how personal struggles are shaped not only by early relationships and unconscious processes, but also by broader social, cultural, and systemic factors. I see therapy as a collaborative process where the relationship we build becomes an important part of our work together. My theoretical influences include liberation psychology, relational psychoanalysis, and queer theory.
I often work with clients navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, and the impact of past or relational trauma. While I work with a diverse range of clients, I’ve found that my approach often aligns well with queer people and women.
Together, we will create an environment that emphasizes your agency and allows you to deepen your connection to your inner voice.
Education: I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling from Pacifica Graduate Institute and a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. I have also received extensive training in psychodynamic therapy, depth psychology, and child development.
