Instructions for how to ask your insurance company about coverage:
If you are unsure of what kind of mental health coverage your insurance plan offers, and would like to find out whether it will reimburse you for therapy sessions with me, do the following:
1. Ask if you need a referral from your doctor to work with an MFT, AMFT or ASW. If you do, make sure to obtain this referral.
2. Ask your insurance company if it requires the therapist to be part of a preferred provider network, or if there are otherwise any limitations on which therapy services you can be reimbursed for.
3. Ask about the amounts of your deductible and co-pay, and if there is a limit to how many sessions are covered.
I choose not to contract with most commercial insurance companies directly because doing so is often, for a variety of reasons, not in your best interest as a therapy client. For one, not using your insurance affords you the highest degree of confidentiality possible. Read more below about why I do not accept insurance.
